using the free version of SpendMap
You might want to bookmark this page as you may need to refer back to it as you go.
A few things to note before you get started
We’re going to help you slash paperwork, control spending and save you a bunch of time and money with totally free software and support. We can’t wait either but before we get started, here are a couple things you should know…
New Installations Only
Use these instructions to install a NEW copy of SpendMap on your PC. This is NOT used to upgrade an older version of SpendMap. For upgrades, use the menu Help > Check For Updates, from within SpendMap.
Real Software – Not Just a Demo
This is a working version of our Windows/desktop software that needs to be installed on your computer. If you’re just looking for a quick demo, here are some other options to consider.
Other Options for Bigger Companies
Our free Windows/desktop version is great for small businesses but we have other products and services that are better for larger organizations. For example, if your company has multiple locations or if you need to support lots of users, our web-based version may be a better option for you.
It’s really not all that hard but you will need Administrator privileges on your computer (i.e. in Windows) to complete the installation. If you don’t have Admin rights, someone else can do the installation for you, like your IT Department, consultant or your know-it-all buddy (Admin rights are needed for the initial installation only but not for ongoing/daily use of the system).
TIP: Keep this page open for easy reference until you complete all 3 steps below…
Step 1/3: Download the Installation Package
Step 2/3: Install SpendMap on your PC
RIGHT-mouse click on “SpendMap-2017-SETUP.EXE” and select the menu to “Run as Administrator“, then follow the prompts to install the software.
IMPORTANT: When asked for a location/folder to install the software in, accept the default (C:\FREEPROCUREMENT) or select another folder on your local PC (even if you need a multi-user/network installation). Please see “Note for Network Installations”, below, for more details. Also please avoid installing in “C:\Program Files”, as that folder is set to Read Only in some versions of Windows.
Step 3/3: Run SpendMap “as admin” to Complete the Setup Process
Now that the installation is complete, you will see a new folder on your desktop called “SpendMap Free Version” with five shortcuts/icons in it.
RIGHT-mouse click on the shortcut/icon for the Evaluation Copy of SpendMap and select the menu to “Run as Administrator” to allow the software to complete the setup process.
REMINDER: Admin rights are needed the first time you run the software only, not for ongoing/daily use of the system.
Note for Network Installations
The free version of SpendMap can either be installed on your local PC (e.g. on your C: drive) or on a network server for multi-user access.
However, in all cases, you must start by installing the software on your local PC, even if you need a multi-user installation. If you need to, you can move SpendMap to your server AFTER the initial installation, by following the steps under “Network Installation Instructions” in the Getting Started Documentation that you will see once the system is installed locally.
If you try to install it on your server to start with, it will not work and you will have to start over.
We have carefully developed these instructions to make it as easy as possible for both single user and multi-user installations. If you follow the instructions and don’t skip any steps, you should have no trouble at all.
To save you time, we have carefully prepared the software and instructions to make it as easy as possible for you to evaluate and implement SpendMap.
Once the software is installed, please take a moment to review the Getting Started Documentation. The installation program will create a shortcut/icon pointing to the Getting Started Documentation for your convenience…
This 5-minute video may also be helpful – it reviews what you’ll see once you install the system and how to get started with your free version of SpendMap…
All you need is a standard PC running Windows 7, 8.1 or 10, with 1 GB of RAM, about 5 GB of free hard disk space and an internet connection so that the system can check for updates.
SpendMap will connect to our Update Server to check for updates (patches) from time to time. Depending on how strictly you have configured your firewall or proxy server, you may get a message that either PURCHASE.EXE and/or SPENDMAPUPDATE.EXE are trying to connect to our update server at www.spendmap-updates.com.
